Chelsea Davis has one of the most-heard voices in the format, whether or not people know the name attached to it. She is the voice at the top of Desiigner's "Panda" — a record that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 — which makes her tag work a fixture of one of the most recognisable openings in modern rap.Based in Florida, she has been recording producer tags since 2010, in that time cutting thousands of them for major-label and independent producers and DJs. The work runs wider than beat tags alone: DJ drops, radio drops, mixtape and album intros, and general voice-over, which is why her delivery moves comfortably between the hard, clipped read a trap tag wants and the smoother one a radio drop needs.That range is the useful part. A producer tag has to work as branding and as music at the same time, and Davis has spent long enough on both sides of that line to know which one a given beat is asking for.
